At Haslam Park, Character Development is not something that happens incidentally: it is prioritised and planned for in the purposeful way our school community functions, reflects and grows. It is evidenced in all elements of provision outlined above, but furthermore exists in between these specific events, populating a plethora of interactions and opportunities throughout each and every school day. We use the DfE passport as bridge between this work at school and at home, recognising that some children will be able to benefit from supplementary parental support in the completion of character development activities. However, as we understand our context extremely well, our commitment is to facilitating the completion of as many of the activities as possible within our school offer, whether that be within the school day or as part of our extensive extra-curricular offer. All teachers commit to two clubs a year, (as part of their directed time to facilitate manageable work load). Teaching assistants commit to one club a year.
At Haslam Park we believe that every child should have the opportunity to take part in enriching experiences as part of their education. We employ a systematic approach to enrichment with regular monitoring and reviews of what we offer to our pupils to ensure they get the every best out of the opportunities we offer as a school. We aim to provide children with a rounded, culturally rich education with opportunities personal development and building life skills.
Enriching experiences such as school trips, extra curricular activities and themed days ensure children have new experiences, extend their learning, discover new passions and talents and have fun! Enrichment opportunities also help a child's wellbeing by boosting confidence, resilience and independence.
Through enrichment we teach a range of life skills such as communication, team work and respect. These ensure children leave Haslam Park with the skills they need to thrive at secondary schools and beyond!
