At Haslam Park Primary School the personal development and wellbeing of pupils is at the heart of our curriculum. This encompasses all learning and experiences within our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education Curriculum, our Relationships Curriculum and the range and quality of extra-curricular and enrichment activities we offer.

Our aim is to teach children how to navigate through life safely, happily, healthily and also how to make a meaningful, positive contribution as well-informed citizens in modern Britain. Children are growing up in a world that is constantly changing and it is the duty of all staff at school in partnership with parents to teach the children the transferable life skills they will need.

Leaders have given careful thought to the context of the school when developing our Personal Development offer.  Our Personal Development programme systematically increases pupils understanding and knowledge of what it means to be a responsible, enlightened citizen in modern Britain. In possession of this knowledge and understanding, our pupils can make a reality of our vision statement as active, responsible, informed citizens.

All learning and experiences are planned progressively to ensure pupils’ knowledge and skills are developed within the context of the whole curriculum and are age appropriate. We refer to the National Curriculum and Government Guidance and also selected quality resources to support teaching and learning. Through this comprehensive, taught programme children acquire the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills necessary to make informed choices about how to live happy, healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.

We actively encourage children to have a voice in their school experience and regularly make opportunities for them to talk about issues important to them, helping them relate these to wider events, past and present. Through this, pupils will learn how to influence their future in a positive way, developing character and citizenship.
