Welcome to Haslam Park Primary School
It is a genuine pleasure and privilege to welcome you to Haslam Park Primary School, a school of which we are immensely proud.
Haslam Park is a very special place. We are a vibrant, diverse and inclusive school community, where children are at the heart of every decision we make. Our wonderful pupils, dedicated staff, supportive families, committed governors and wider community work together to create a school where children feel safe, happy, valued and inspired to achieve.
What makes Haslam Park particularly special is not simply what we do, but why we do it.
We know our community exceptionally well. We understand the challenges that many of our children and families face, and we recognise that our school serves a community with significant levels of socio-economic disadvantage. We have a high proportion of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), children who speak English as an additional language (EAL), and pupils who join or leave us at different points in their primary education.
Our context shapes everything we do, but it never limits what we believe our children can achieve.
Indeed, quite the opposite.
We know that some of our children face barriers that others may never encounter. We know that some arrive at school with significant gaps in their experiences, language development or prior learning. We know that others need highly individualised support to access education successfully.
For us, this does not mean lowering expectations. It means raising our ambition, strengthening our provision and working even harder to ensure that every child receives the education, opportunities and experiences they deserve.
We are absolutely determined that a child's starting point must never define their end point.
This belief runs through every aspect of life at Haslam Park.
An Ambitious Education for Every Child
At Haslam Park, we believe that every child is entitled to an excellent education, regardless of their background, circumstances, needs or starting points.
Our curriculum is ambitious, broad, carefully sequenced and designed with our children and community firmly in mind. We place great importance on securing strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics, while ensuring that pupils experience the full richness of the wider curriculum.
We recognise that, for some of our pupils, school provides opportunities and experiences that may not otherwise be readily available to them. That is why we are so committed to enrichment, educational visits, cultural experiences, outdoor learning, the arts, sport and opportunities to develop talents and interests.
We do not believe that disadvantage should mean a disadvantaged education.
Our staff work tirelessly to identify gaps in knowledge, remove barriers to learning and provide the teaching, support and challenge that children need to succeed. We have high expectations of all pupils, including those with SEND, those who are disadvantaged and those who are learning English as an additional language.
Our approach is rooted in the belief that inclusion and ambition are not competing priorities. They are inseparable.
We want our children to leave Haslam Park not only with strong academic foundations, but also with the confidence, curiosity, independence and aspirations to embrace the next stage of their education.
Inclusion Is Who We Are
Inclusion is not an additional aspect of our work at Haslam Park. It is fundamental to our identity, our culture and our everyday practice.
We are particularly proud of the reputation we have developed within our local community for supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities. Families recognise Haslam Park as a school where children with additional needs are welcomed, understood and valued, and where staff are committed to helping them thrive.
This trust is one of the reasons why we have such a significant proportion of pupils with SEND. Families choose Haslam Park because they want their children to be part of a school community that genuinely believes in inclusion and works hard to make it a reality.
We see this as both a privilege and a profound responsibility.
Our inclusive approach is not about simply ensuring that children with additional needs have a place in our school. It is about ensuring that they belong, participate, learn, achieve and experience success.
We recognise that equality does not mean treating every child in exactly the same way. It means understanding each child's individual needs, identifying the barriers they face and providing the appropriate support, adaptations and opportunities to enable them to succeed.
Our staff work closely with families, external professionals and one another to develop a deep understanding of our pupils. We are committed to early identification, high-quality adaptive teaching, carefully considered provision and strong partnerships that put the child at the centre.
We are equally ambitious for pupils with SEND. Success will not always look the same for every child, and progress must be understood in the context of individual needs and starting points. However, our belief in every child's capacity to learn, develop and achieve never changes.
We are proud to be a school where difference is understood, diversity is celebrated and every child is recognised for the unique contribution they make to our community.
Understanding Our Community, Raising Aspirations
Our school context is central to our decision-making.
We serve a community with high levels of deprivation, considerable diversity and significant pupil mobility. Many of our children experience challenges beyond the school gates, and we understand the impact that these can have on attendance, wellbeing, communication, learning and family life.
We also recognise the enormous strengths within our community: its resilience, cultural richness, sense of belonging and the aspirations that families hold for their children.
Our responsibility is to understand both.
We never make assumptions about what children can achieve based on where they live, the language they speak, the challenges they face or the support they require.
Instead, we ask ourselves what more we can do to help them succeed.
This means investing in strong relationships with families, prioritising communication and language development, supporting emotional wellbeing, providing additional academic support where needed and ensuring that children have access to experiences that broaden their horizons.
For pupils who join us during the school year, sometimes having experienced considerable change or disruption, we work hard to help them settle quickly, feel a sense of belonging and access the learning they need.
For pupils learning English as an additional language, we celebrate the linguistic and cultural knowledge they bring, while ensuring they receive the support needed to develop confidence and fluency in English.
For children experiencing disadvantage, we are relentless in our determination to remove barriers and provide opportunities that allow them to flourish.
We cannot change every circumstance in a child's life, but we can make an extraordinary difference to their experience of school and the opportunities available to them.
That responsibility is one we take incredibly seriously.
High Expectations, Strong Outcomes and a Love of Learning
At Haslam Park, high expectations are not simply something we talk about. They underpin our curriculum, teaching, relationships and school culture.
We want every pupil to achieve as well as they possibly can. We place a strong emphasis on high-quality teaching, effective assessment, timely intervention and carefully planned support.
We are proud of the academic achievements of our pupils, including published Key Stage 2 outcomes in which average scaled scores in reading and mathematics have exceeded national figures.
However, we also recognise that achievement is about more than headline results.
In a school with our context, it is especially important to understand the journey each child makes: the knowledge they acquire, the barriers they overcome, the independence they develop and the confidence they gain.
We celebrate academic excellence, but we also celebrate the child who learns to communicate their needs, the pupil who develops the confidence to participate, the child who discovers a love of reading and the learner who perseveres through challenges to achieve something they once thought impossible.
Every achievement matters, and every child deserves to experience success.
Our pupils also have an important voice in shaping school life. Through opportunities such as our School Council, our Leadership programmes and well established relationships, our children are encouraged to share their views, contribute ideas and develop a sense of ownership and responsibility for their learning.
A Culture of Belonging, Respect and Positive Behaviour
We want Haslam Park to be a place where every child feels that they belong.
Our school is built on strong relationships, mutual respect, kindness and a shared understanding of what it means to be part of a community.
We have high expectations for behaviour, attitudes and attendance, while recognising that children sometimes need different approaches and levels of support to meet those expectations.
We understand that behaviour is influenced by children's experiences, development, communication and emotional needs. Our approach combines clear boundaries and consistency with empathy, understanding and appropriate individual support.
We work hard to ensure that classrooms are calm, purposeful and welcoming, and that pupils feel secure enough to take risks, make mistakes, ask questions and grow as learners.
We are particularly proud of the positive relationships between our pupils and staff, and the way our children demonstrate care, understanding and acceptance of one another.
Attendance is also a key priority. We recognise the importance of every school day and work closely with families to understand and overcome barriers to regular attendance. We are proud that attendance has exceeded 96% this year, reflecting the collective commitment of our pupils, families and staff.
Developing the Whole Child
We want our pupils to achieve academically, but we also want them to become happy, confident, compassionate and resilient young people.
Personal development is woven throughout school life. We provide opportunities for children to develop leadership, independence, creativity, teamwork, responsibility and a strong sense of self-worth.
We want pupils to understand and appreciate difference, challenge prejudice, respect others and recognise their own ability to make a positive contribution to society.
Our commitment to wellbeing is particularly important given the challenges some of our children and families experience. We know that children learn best when they feel safe, secure, understood and supported.
We are proud that our commitment to emotional wellbeing has been recognised through the Wellbeing Award for Schools. This reflects the importance we place on nurturing positive mental health, supportive relationships and a school culture where both pupils and staff are valued.
Above all, we want children to look back on their time at Haslam Park with happy memories, meaningful friendships, exciting experiences and a genuine belief in themselves.
Safeguarding, Leadership and Working Together
The safety and wellbeing of our children will always be our highest priority.
Safeguarding is embedded in our school culture, and we work to ensure that every child feels safe, listened to and confident that adults will help them when needed.
Our staff understand the importance of knowing children and families well, recognising concerns early and working effectively with other professionals to provide support when it is needed.
Our leadership team and governors are deeply committed to the continued improvement of Haslam Park. We understand our school context, know our community and use this knowledge to shape our priorities, allocate resources and strengthen provision.
We invest in the professional development of our staff because we recognise that meeting the wide range of needs within our school requires expertise, reflection, collaboration and an unwavering commitment to improvement.
We also know that the strongest outcomes are achieved when schools and families work together. Parents and carers are our partners, and we value the trust they place in us.
We never underestimate the responsibility that comes with being entrusted with a child's education, wellbeing and future.

Our school vision, “Together we explore, learn and grow,” is much more than a motto. It captures what we believe education should be about.
We want our children to explore the world around them, discover new interests, develop a love of learning and grow into confident, capable and caring individuals.
We are immensely proud of our school, our community and, most importantly, our children.
Haslam Park is not a school that allows disadvantage, additional needs, language barriers or difficult circumstances to determine what children can achieve.
We are a school that recognises those challenges, responds to them with determination and works tirelessly to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Our children's starting points may be different, but our ambition for them is equally high.
