Governor Monitoring and Impact – Autumn Term 2026

Visible Leadership, Constructive Challenge and a Commitment to School Improvement

At Haslam Park Primary School, our governors play an active role in school improvement through regular visits, professional dialogue, monitoring and constructive challenge.

During September and October 2026, governors focused on SEND provision, statutory website compliance, environmental leadership, curriculum experiences and strategic school improvement.

Their involvement demonstrates our commitment to effective governance that goes beyond attending meetings and contributes meaningfully to school improvement.

SEND Provision – Challenging Leaders and Strengthening Accountability

Governors met with school leaders to examine how provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is identified, planned, funded and evaluated.

They asked challenging questions about the allocation of SEND funding, the effectiveness of interventions and how leaders know that additional provision is making a difference.

Following discussions with the headteacher, governors presented further questions for consideration by the Senior Leadership Team.

Governor impact: Strengthened scrutiny of SEND provision, funding and accountability, with agreed follow-up to examine leaders' responses and the impact of provision on pupils.

Website Compliance – Monitoring Statutory Responsibilities

Following a website audit, a governor worked alongside school staff to review statutory information, identify gaps and agree actions to improve accuracy, accessibility and compliance.

A follow-up visit was arranged to check progress and ensure agreed improvements had been completed.

Governor impact: Clear improvement priorities identified, staff supported and a further monitoring point established to hold the school accountable for completing the required actions.

Environmental Leadership – Recognising Pupil Impact in the Community

Governors celebrated the achievements of our Eco Council and its partnership with Bolton Council's Environmental Services team.

During a September litter-picking activity, pupils collected 12 bags of rubbish from the school car park and neighbouring Haslam Park.

Bolton Council confirmed that the school's ongoing volunteering work had contributed to the collection of more than 100 bags of litter and praised pupils' enthusiasm, responsibility and commitment to improving their community.

The school was also provided with one of only 16 Volunteer Vaults across Bolton, supporting further community environmental action.

A governor also participated in judging the school's environmental competition, recognising pupils' creativity and environmental awareness.

Governor impact: Recognised and celebrated the impact of pupil leadership, gathered external evidence of the school's contribution to its community and supported the school's commitment to sustainability and active citizenship.

Curriculum and Personal Development – Seeing Learning in Action

A governor attended the Year 5 poetry showcase, observing pupils perform confidently for their families.

This provided first-hand insight into pupils' communication skills, confidence, curriculum engagement and opportunities to celebrate achievement with parents.

Governor impact: Gained direct evidence of pupils' wider learning experiences and strengthened governors' understanding of how the curriculum supports confidence, communication and personal development.

Strategic School Improvement – External Perspective and Professional Challenge

A governor met with the School Improvement Partner to discuss school priorities and gain an external perspective on improvement activity.

This supported informed professional dialogue and helped governors develop their understanding of the school's strategic priorities.

Governor impact: Strengthened governors' knowledge of school improvement priorities and supported their ability to ask informed questions and provide appropriate challenge.
