Homework

At Haslam Park, we believe homework should enrich the learning opportunities children experience in school. Homework should be enjoyable and should not become a source of stress or anxiety for children or families.

Reading at Home

The most important homework activity you can do with your child is reading together at home every night. Reading regularly helps children to develop their vocabulary, comprehension, confidence and fluency, all of which are essential for success across the curriculum.

Please make time to read with your child and talk about the book. Your child may read to you, you may read to them, or you can take turns reading together.

After reading, please record your child’s reading on Pageticker at least three times each week. This helps us to celebrate your child’s reading, encourage regular reading habits and monitor their engagement with reading at home.

PageTicker- Digital Reading Record

Your child will change their reading book when reading has been logged on Pageticker and they have demonstrated that they have understood their current book. If they need a little longer, they may bring the same book home again.

Spelling

Children can access Spelling Shed at home to practise their weekly spellings in a fun and engaging way. Regular practice will help children to develop their spelling skills, build confidence and reinforce the learning taking place in school.

Maths

Maths homework should be completed online using Infinity by White Rose Education.

Your child will be set weekly maths homework to complete at home. These activities are designed to reinforce, embed and support the learning taking place in class and help children develop confidence in their mathematical understanding.

Please encourage your child to complete their weekly activities independently, with support where needed.

Times Tables Rock Stars

Children can also use Times Tables Rock Stars to practise their times tables and develop their fluency.  We encourage families to spend time together completing these activities and making learning a positive and enjoyable part of home life.

Please be aware that homework activities may be shared and celebrated in class, but they will not always be formally marked.
