Haslam Park Primary School

King Class

Year 5 and 6

Welcome to our page.

King Class is an exciting, energetic place to be and we each have something special and unique to contribute: from amazing artists to remarkable readers- we have it all!

Just like our class namesake - Billie Jean King- we are competitive, determined and hardworking. We treat others with tolerance, kindness and most of all, we work hard to ensure equality and equity in our classroom.

British Values:

We are a 'Law Class'.

We know the meaning and value of law and how important it is to uphold laws to be good citizens- to ourselves, each other and the wider community in which we live. We revisit British Values through our learning.

Keep a look out for photos and updates as we learn, grow and explore!

Homework:

Each week, we are expected to login to TT Rockstars to improve on our times tables fluency and speed:

https://ttrockstars.com/

and Spelling Shed to work on our current spelling test before our weekly spelling test:

https://www.spellingshed.com/en-gb/

We also receive other pieces of homework related to our current learning: this could be a research-based task or a set of maths questions linked to current arithmetic learning.

Our Week in King Class:

This is our weekly timetable, for your information. :-)

Computing- Celebrating National Coding Week

13th September.

To celebrate National Coding week, King Class used 'Scratch' to build codes and create amazing scenes. We really did enjoy this and can't wait for our unit on 'Computer Programming' later on in the year.

Art- Ancient Greek Pottery.

22nd September.

We spent the afternoon trying different ways of moulding, shaping and adding patterns to clay in preparation for our final pieces-  a piece of pottery in the style of The Ancient Greeks. Look at our fantastic initial pieces. Stay tunes for our final pieces!

Year 5 King:

Autumn Learning:

In our English  classes, we have been reading 'The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse' by Charlie Mackey. This book is a brilliant way of exploring wellbeing and friendship.

In maths, we have been recapping and building on our knowledge of place value and the four operations using Power Maths, stem sentences to represent our mathematical knowledge and TT Rockstars to become super sonic times tablers!

Excellent English work:

Khalid worked incredibly hard on this persuasive letter. We created a class success criteria and used situations from the story to write brilliant letters. Khalid's is one of many wonderful pieces of work.
