Our class is named after the famous scientist, Marie Curie. Marie became the first woman to be awarded a Nobel prize. In 1911 Marie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovering the two elements, polonium and radium. She was the first person to be awarded two Nobel Prizes. Marie became very famous and scientists came from around the world to study radioactivity with Marie. Soon doctors found that radiology could help with curing cancer.

In Reading and Writing this term we will be reading Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. Please listen to and enjoy the story over the  Christmas holidays. We will be writing lots of non fiction and fiction texts based on this wonderful story.

This half term we will be working on Multiplication and Division using the Power Maths Scheme to support teaching and learning (see curriculum overview).  I will be setting weekly multiplication homework using tt rockstars to make sure pupils secure their times table facts for the 2, 5, 10 and 3 x tables.

In History we are looking at changes over time in shops in the local area.  We will be looking at how shops have changed over time and what types of shops there used to be as well as the types of products they used to sell.

Science -Habitats in the local area

In Science we will be looking at plant and animal habitats in the local area. We will be looking at what plants and animals live there. We will be pond dipping and exploring the animals and plants in more detail.

In Curie class children are expected to read at least 3 times a week at home with a parent. TT Rockstars is set daily and Spelling Shed is set weekly for your children to learn at home. Oxford Reading Owl is a great website to use for quality texts to read at home. Purple Mash and Education City will be used to set topical homework.
